Ride into the New Year: Experience Confucian Heritage and Festive Art
To celebrate the Year of the Horse (2026), the Taipei Confucius Temple invites
international visitors to experience a unique blend of ancient wisdom and festive joy.
Our "Confucian Style" celebration features two major waves of activities, offering a
deep dive into traditional Chinese aesthetics.
Part 1: The Grand Opening (Saturday, Jan 31)
Kick-start the festivities with art and hands-on creativity!
• Live Calligraphy & Illustration (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM):
Witness nearly 30 master calligraphers and artists gathering at the Dacheng Hall (the
temple's main shrine). You can request personalized blessings written in elegant ink or
pick a whimsical, modern illustration to take home.
• Traditional Woodblock Printing:
Try your hand at printing "Doufang" (diamond-shaped lucky charms). Our exclusive
2026 designs include:
• Steed at the Apricot Altar: A horse leaping near the legendary place where Confucius
taught, symbolizing wisdom and success.
• Galloping Horses & Ritual Plumes: A design featuring the "Di" (pheasant feathers)
used in the sacred Confucius ritual dances, blending grace with tradition.
• Paper-Cutting Workshop:
Learn the delicate folk art of paper-cutting. Perfect for families, this workshop guides
you to create your own festive horse silhouette to decorate your home.
• Photo Check-in & Limited Gift:
Take a photo at our New Year installation in the Confucianism Square (the main
courtyard). Post it on social media and check in at the Temple to receive a limitededition "Shi-Shi-Ru-Yi" Red Envelope set. The name is a clever pun—it sounds like
"May all go as you wish" but uses the character for "Confucianism" to bring you the
Temple’s special blessing.
Part 2: Lunar New Year Holiday (Feb 17 – Feb 21)
Celebrate the first five days of the Lunar New Year with us.
• Traditional Music Performance (Feb 17, 10:00 AM):
Celebrate New Year's Day with a serene performance by the Yayue Dance Volunteers.
The sound of ancient Chinese instruments will fill the Dacheng Hall Plaza to welcome
the spring.
• New Year Blessing Cards (Daily):
Visit our Calligraphy Blessing Room (Morning & Afternoon sessions), where artists will
write your personal wishes on special New Year cards.
• Hanfu Experience (New & Limited!):
Step back in time by trying on Hanfu (traditional Chinese robes). Walk through the
historic red pillars and stone courtyards in classic attire for an unforgettable photo
opportunity.
